Prepping for Immigration Interview

In an immigration interview all the government is trying to do is make sure that you are the right person. You have to prepare for the interview. There are a certain things that you can do which will help insure that you pass your immigration interview with flying colors. Here is what you need to do.

Dressing Properly

First impressions do count, so do not forget to dress appropriately. It is best that you opt for conservative dressing because you don’t know what it is the interviewer might find offending. A dress suit, jacket or plain jeans and tee shirt is the perfect outfit for an interview.

Never Go Without Your Attorney

This is one mistake that you need to avoid at all costs. Many times it happens that the lawyer is late and the interviewer tries to get you to sign a legal document that says you are okay with taking the interview without the presence of your lawyer. You are not, so you must not agree to this. The ideal thing to do is make sure you and your lawyer head to the interview together. This way, you will not have to face any pressure.

Time Management

Being late is like giving the interviewer an option to dislike you. There are times when immigration officers have simply denied applications when people have been late. Make sure you arrive at the office at least 30 minutes early so that there is no issue with traffic or the attorney being late, etc.

Listen, Do Not Rush!

You are making an effort to make a good impression on your immigration officer, this is why it is a must that you do not rush anything, show impatience or impertinence. Listen to what the officer is saying and then answer questions appropriately. One thing that you must avoid at all costs is not answering the question clearly. Immigration officers are wary of this and expect you to do that. This is the reason why you must not only be honest, but also outright with your answers. Make sure your tone is respectful and you show with your demeanor that you are compliant and willing to answer anything the officer asks.

Originals and Duplicate Documents

It is safe to bring both the original as well as duplicate documents with you. This way if there is any discrepancy or the officer wants to have a copy, you can give it to them directly. Do not be reluctant in handing over copies, but never give out the original. They are yours and everyone in the room knows it.
